The group is lead by Lennae Seveers and includes Shirley A. (Mrs. Don) Chapman, Elizabeth "Liz" Chapman Codding, Cindy Kuhn (CFA webmaster), Kathleen Tovar (CFQ quarterly editor), and Mary Helen Blake (CFA Photo Committee). President Don Chapman and committee chair Gil Alford are ex-officio members of the group. More members are needed on this group if any of you are willing to serve send an email to cfa or mail a note to CFA Photos, POB 1586, Florissant, MO 63031. This is especially true if you have experience in this area. I. WHAT: A program to collect and preserve "Chapman" photographs on a continuing and annual basis. The annual effort will culminate at each years CFA meeting with a photographic display and contest. Photographs submitted must be "Chapman." That would include, but not be limited to, Chapmans or Chapman descendants and their spouses, Chapman activity, Chapman scenes or Chapman objects. Any photograph taken of activities at a CFA meeting will qualify. Photographs of documents such as birth, marriage or death certificates, bible pages, etc. will not be included. II. WHEN: There are three parts to this one. (1) Photographs will be judged at each annual meeting and winners announced at the Saturday banquet. (2) Photographs may be submitted at any time (all the time) on a year round bases. (3) To allow time to prepare for the contest at the meeting the cutoff date for photos to be included in the contest will be March 15 of each year. Photographs submitted after that date will be considered for the meeting in the ensuing year. III. WHY: This is being done for two reasons. (1) To add a new and significant dimension to the annual CFA meeting and (2) to promote the collection of photographs for CFA's national Chapman Photo Archive. IV. WHERE: There are several parts to this one too. (1) The photo display/contest will be in the hotel used for each annual meeting. Photos may also be submitted at the hotel. (2) Those sending photos via email should send them to cfa. (2) Those sending their photos via U.S. Mail will send them to CFA Photos, POB 1586, Florissant, MO 63031-1586. V. WHO: All CFA members, active or inactive, may enter the contest by submitting photographs. They need not be present at the meeting to have their photos entered in the contest. Any other person may submit photographs for the archive but they will not be considered for the contest. The photograph group described at the top of this announcement will select a small group of CFA members who are present at each meeting to judge the photographs being considered at that meeting. VI. HOW: 1. All photographs submitted will become the property of CFA and will not be returned with two exceptions. Exceptions are: (1) when a member has no local capability to obtain an acceptable copy they may send the photo with a note asking it be returned and CFA will scan the photo and return the original and (2) limited originals may be scanned to CFA files at the meetings and the original returned immediately to the member. Photographs submitted prior to 2003 will not be considered unless resubmitted according to these instructions. 2. There is no limit on the number of photographs that may be submitted at any time. 3. Acceptable digital photocopies (original quality) may be made at Kinko's, Office Max, Office Depot, etc. Actual hard photos may be of any size. 4. Digital computer images may be sent via email or mailed to CFA as described above. If possible they should be scanned at 300 dpi resolution and sized so as not to be smaller than 3 x 3 inches or larger than 7 x 7 inches. If possible send file types JPG (jpeg), TIF (tiff) or GIF. Do not compress or zip files using Mac software. A good alternative to sending via email would be to send photos on CD, Zip disk (PC format) or even floppy if the photo is small enough. Zip disks so used will be returned if requested. 5. Each photograph submitted, regardless of how, when or where, must be accompanied with a description of the photo that identifies the subject(s), location, time and circumstance. If some of the information is not known then guess. Your guess will be better than any other. DO NOT WRITE ON EITHER THE BACK OR FACE OF THE PHOTOGRAPH. Likewise do not use stick-up notes or staples. It is assumed the member submitting each photo or group of photos will identify his or her self. If a photo has been subjected to any restoration - digital or otherwise - please explain. 6. Contest categories for any given meeting will be determined by the CFA Meetings Photo Group based on the submissions for that year. Consider submitting photos such as your own baby pictures, school photos, graduation pictures, marriage photos, work, military or vacation shots. Be sure you eventually submit all of the photos of your parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. Photos submitted may be displayed at one or more CFA meetings, published in the CFA quarterly, and/or posted on the CFA website. That is not to say such will happen to all photographs received. 7. CFA will register and catalog all photographs received, maintaining records thereof. All photographs will be stored/preserved in archival conditions. CFA members may receive copies (in reasonable quantity) of archive photos for no more than cost to copy. Non-members may be charged an additional nominal fee for copies. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* WEBSITE UPDATES Updates to the web site during the month of January 2003: Census Records - 1820 US Census detail for all states *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* MEMBERSHIP INFO You can view the membership information on the CFA Web Site at: http://www.chapmanfamilies.org/member.html *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* OFFICERS FOR 2002-2003 PRESIDENT - Don Chapman, Minnesota VICE-PRESIDENT - Ernie Chapman, Illinois SECRETARY - Jackie Konecny, Texas TREASURER - M.
