From Elaine Booth - Of interest to those coming to Salt Lake City for the CFA conference May 17-19, 2002 might be the UGA (Utah Genealogy Association) conference in Salt Lake City May 9-11 at the Salt Palace (in downtown). The Utah Genealogical Association (UGA) is an international organization that has served the worldwide genealogical community for over twenty-five years. The conference will have classes, displays, and vendors from all over the United States. Topics will include National and International Research, Computers and Technology, Research Methodology, Migration, Writing family histories, etc. Since it will be just one week before the CFA conference, some might be interested in planning on attending both at the same visit. Information regarding the conference can be found at http://www.infouga.org/confrnce.htm You do not need to be a member of UGA to attend. Note: Only a block from the Salt Palace is the world famous Family History Library. Use what you learn at the conference to do research at the Library. This is a great way to spend the evenings or stay an extra day or two! The Library is open 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Mondays, 7:30 am to 10:00 pm Tuesday-Saturday, and closed Sundays. -Thank you, Elaine! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* HELP WANTED From Gil Alford, Corresponding Secretary - We have just learned of a web site where one can obtain Mobile Co., AL marriage information. All the records appear to be 1900 and later. Data is provided by grooms and brides and includes name, spouse, date, book and page. In many cases a copy of the application can be viewed or printed. The applications gives birth dates, race, residence, education, parents, ceremony information, etc. Go to www.mobile-county.net/probate and from the menu on the left select "OnLine Records." We have already downloaded all of the Chapman records but thought you might want to check it for your other surnames if you have kin in that area. If you know of other sites, where a large quantity of our family records - such as birth, death, marriage, burial, etc. - are available, please let us know just in case we are not aware of the site. Reply to: cfa Bill & Faye Chapman CFA #038 of Dallas, TX have taken on the task of extracting the Chapmans from all of the Tennessee Censuses. They are making great progress and you will be seeing results in the quarterlies. Judy Jefferson CFA #326 is helping with the computer input. We need your help on one small piece of this effort. Would you please look in your library to see if you have a copy of Sistler's 1860 Tennessee Census. The Sistlers have published much Tennessee and census data. However they did not extract all of the data. Please make copies of the Chapman pages. Sistler printed families and those who were in other households in different places so please get them both (we need the "other households" for 1850 as well.) We want to take advantage of the work the Sistler's have done and then Bill and Faye will check the microfilm and add the missing data. Perhaps some of you would like to take on the task of extracting all the Chapman census from some state__ or if that is not possible the Chapmans from selected counties in all of the censuses. Actually we will be happy with any census extraction you can do for us. Please let us hear from you. Send email to cfa. Who is good at reading old Colonial handwriting and transcribing documents such as wills? We need some to do that entering the transcription into a Word, WordPerfect, etc. computer file. If you are willing to help please send email to cfa. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ONLINE "HUNTING" TIPS Ancestry.com - They now have the following census records available to view online: • 1790 U.S. Census (complete, indexed) • 1800 U.S. Census (complete, indexed) • 1810 U.S. Census (complete, indexed) • 1820 U.S. Census (complete, indexed) • 1830 U.S. Census (complete, indexed) • 1840 U.S. Census (complete, browse to counties/townships) • 1850 U.S. Census (complete, browse to counties/townships) • 1860 U.S. Census (complete, browse to counties/townships) • 1870 U.S. Census (partial, browse to counties/townships) • 1880 U.S. Census (complete, browseable) • 1900 U.S. Census (complete, browseable) • 1910 U.S. Census (complete, browseable) • 1920 U.S. Census (complete, browseable) The site is located at http://www.ancestry.com and does require a subscription to view the census images.
