September 11, 2001 In sorrow we mourn for those lost In gratitude we embrace those around us In sympathy we reach out to those who grieve. We Will Never Forget! -Daphne A note from Robert Chapman, CFA President: I have attached an excerpt from a long dissertation by LTC Joe Kern, former director of Military History at the US Air Force Academy. It is his conclusion and pretty much sums up what lies ahead as far as what is required from us as individual citizens. "Because I spend most of my adult life as an officer in the US Army and had assignments that exposed me to a broad range of national security issues, I have been besieged by requests for answers as to what this "New War" is going to be like. Let me assure you that nobody knows, least of all, me. I have some thoughts however. First of all, this will be a long term effort. The enemy is formidable and has operatives in many countries including ours. We haven't suffered our last blow although I hope we have experienced the most difficult one. A big part of this effort will be an extended manhunt worldwide and we have let our resources for conducting this sort of effort dwindle perilously. Right now we are united as we haven't been since the 1940s. We have established a national resolve and identified a great band of heroes in New York and Washington. We have put aside partisan bickering. Flags are flying everywhere. The test is to see whether we can maintain that unification, resolution and firmness of purpose over the long haul. We haven't shown much tendency to do so recently, but we have in the past, and many of us can remember some of those times. I believe that we are in for some of our finest hours as a nation and we will defeat this menace and come out of this trial with our nation and freedoms intact however long the battle and however high the cost." -Bob Chapman, President *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* UPDATES New CFA Vice President- I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Toni Martinazzi as our new CFA Vice President. Toni was gracious enough to submit a brief personal bio: I was born in Portland Oregon. I am a 65 year old retired School librarian whose main hobbies (passions) are family history and running. I also love to garden! I have written two hard bound family stories 1) Albert Rice Chapman 1866-1948 and his descendants and 2) From Pavia to Portland, the Enrico Martinazzi Story and his descendants. For the latter research I traveled to Italy twice. My Chapmans wended their way from Amelia County, Virginia to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to McMinn County, Tennessee, Pike County, Illinois, McDonald County, Missouri and then my Albert left the others and went to Montana about 1900 and stayed until 1921 when he moved to his last home in Oregon. I am member #029 of CFA and also belong to genealogy societies in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, and North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin. My researching began seriously in 1989 and recently have gone about it more feverishly and have broken down some "brick walls". I have given seminars on several aspects of genealogy, mostly which were motivational. My lifetime goal in this subject is to leave my heirs well documented stories on their heritage so that my hard working hard living ancestors will always be remembered. I am proud to have been chosen as your VP and will do my best not to disappoint you! - Toni Martinazzi, CFA Vice President CFA Web Site- Marriage databases for the states of Virginia and Ohio have been added. The records for Missouri and Georgia have been updated. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~chapassn/marr.html *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* HELP WANTED Bill and Faye Chapman are in the process of extracting all of the Tennessee Chapman census (all years).
