1800 Census NJ

Apparently there were no Chapmans in Cumberland County where the census record was preserved but tax records of the period show a strong Chapman presence from the mid 1790's thru the first decade of the 1800's as follows:

Cape May County, Upper Township:
Jonathan Chapman was listed on Tax records in 1796, 1797, 1802, 1805, 1806,1807, and 1809.
Jonathan Chapman Jr. was listed in 1802, 1805, 1807 and 1809.
David Chapman was listed in 1797, 1802, 1805, 1807, and 1809.
Levi Chapman was listed in 1802, 1805, 1806, 1807 and 1809.
Simon Chapman was listed in 1805, 1806, 1807 and 1809.

Essex County had Simon Chapman in Newark in 1795.

Gloucester County had Henry Chapman 1792-94

Middlesex County in 1793 had Daniel Chapman in South Brunswick and James Chapman in North Brunswick.

Monmouth County, Shrewsbury Township had Alexander Chapman in 1793, 1794, 1795 and 1796. John and Robert Chapman were in Dover Township in 1793. Joseph Chapman was in Dover Township in 1796 and Middletown Township in 1806.

Somerset County. Robert Chapman was in Bedminster Township in 1791-97, 1803 and 1805~06. A "Nebit" Chapman Jr. is listed in 1792 Bedminster Township but it is suspected he was Robert, Jr who was listed in 1793, 1796, and 1797. Lewis Chapman was listed in 1803 and a S. Chapman in 1805.
