https://www.fold3.com/signon.php was called Footnote, but the name was changed after Ancestry.com bought it. It was also reserved as a military site. It is free, but membership gets more useful access Both Newspaper.com and fold3 have half price membership right now.
http://www.mocavo.com/ :  has a motto "Free now and always free" It is adding. There is a membership that allows use of there very good search engine to search their large number of databases. Right now their $120 membership is $50.
http://www.myheritage.com/:   3 types of subscriptions;   free basic, limited to 250 people in tree; Premium, up to 2500 people in tree, increased storage, Smart Matching and more;  Premium Plus, adds unlimited people in tree, unlimited storage, etc
